Friday 16th December 2016

Coming home this term will be:

Year 5/6 maths puzzle booklets to keep our minds active during and after Christmas.

Year 5/6 spelling crosswords and wordsearches.  These really test our knowledge

and understanding of our spellings.

Have a great Christmas and very best wishes for 2017.

Friday 2nd December 2016

Please remember to use your spelling app login details to use our new spelling resource.  Everyone was given their individual login details today.  Please keep your details safe.  If you experience any problems let me know.

The full Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 spelling lists can be reviewed by using the practise mode of the spelling app. Make sure it is only the practise mode which is used at the moment.

We will use this app to test you in class during w/c 12th December.

Remember, if you are unable to access the internet at home, you are welcome to use a school laptop during the first 20 minutes of your lunch break.

Friday 25th November

Next week, our spelling test reviews spelling patterns only.

Please make sure that you review the full year 3/4 and year 5/6 spelling lists in preparation for a test of all these words before the end of term.

As usual, in addition to learning the weekly spellings, please make sure that you complete at least 10 sentences in your green spelling book by Thursday 1st December.

Some children are yet to complete times table challenge 1 in under 7 minutes. Please make sure that plenty of blank challenges are taken home to practise.

Friday 18th November

Year 5/6 spellings are the next 10 starting with restaurant.

Year 5/6 spelling pattern this week is -ancy and -ious.

I have also given my spelling group an activity spelling booklet which is optional.

Our spelling test day is Thursday.

All children must complete 10 sentences in their green spelling books which will be collected on Thursday 24th November.

Friday 21st October

Everyone should have new spellings in their spelling books this week.

Year 5/6 spellings are the next in the list starting with hindrance.

Year 3/4 spellings are the next in the list starting with grammar.

The spelling pattern is -ence.  These words include: independence, intelligence, obedience, silence, innocence, magnificence, violence, patience, achieve, caffeine.

Please keep reading regularly and look at ways of beating your times tables challenge scores.

During November, there will be a full test on year 3/4 spellings so don't forget to review these words that are in your reading record.

You should all have a copy of the words you spelt wrong at the start of the term in your reading record.

If possible, continue your work on formal written methods for multiplication which you have learnt this term.

Well done for all your efforts today during our maths carousel.

Have a good holiday!

Friday 14th October

New spellings have been sent home today.

Majority of children have 10 spelling pattern words to learn and 10 words from either the Year 3/4 list or the Year 5/6.

A couple of children have individual lists and they should know who they are.

For all children, the new spelling pattern words focus on ending -ence, and -ency.

The Year 5/6 spellings, in addition to the above, are the next in the list starting with excellent.

The Year 3/4 spellings are the next in the list starting with eighth.

All children MUST complete 10 sentences by next Thursday.

The spellings must be learnt ready for the weekly test in class.

The spelling book and sentences must be brought in on Thursday as I had many children this week that did not do this.

Please review the sentences with your child checking that the sentence is grammatically correct, punctuated correctly and that the key spellings is correctly spelt.

Our reading records are checked on a Tuesday - all children must have their records signed at least 5 times in a week.

Well done to all those  children that are reading far in excess of the 5 times a week.

Now that we have reviewed multiplication methods in class, please challenge yourself with your multiplication practise at home.

Year 6 in particular need to focus on 3 digit x 2 multiplication and multiplication of fractions.

Friday 7th October

New spellings have been sent home today.

We are looking at the pattern -ably, ly, -ant, -ent.

Year 5/6 spellings are from determined to exaggerate.

Year 3/4 spellings are from circle to eight.

Please make sure everyone is spending time daily looking and reviewing the word lists in the reading journal.

Please complete at least 10 sentences using the new weekly spellings.

Check you are reading at least 5 times in a week.  Ask your parents/carers to quiz you on the questions handed out during parents evening.

Practise your times tables recall.

Can you find an app or website to help others in the class?

http://www.primarygames.co.uk/pg2/splat/splatsq100.html

Use this splat board to recall the multiples of 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,11,12.

Can you find all the prime numbers?

Thursday 29th September 2016

Homework this week will be: learning spellings for the class test next Thursday 6th October, learning Year 3/4 spellings on a daily basis ready for the full test later in the term, daily reading and daily practise of times table.

New spellings will be sent out on Friday 30th September.

Please make sure that you complete the look/cover/write sheet as well as ten sentences that contain the new spellings.  You must ensure that you spell the key spellings correctly.  A number of children have failed to spell them correctly this week.  All the sentences must be checked for the correct use of punctuation.  All corrections from last weeks spellings must be made.

A  copy of the Year 3/4 spelling test results have been sent home today.  Each child has a copy of the spellings that they need to learn stuck in their reading journals.  There will be a full test during the last week of term (w/c 17th October).

READING JOURNALS WILL BE CHECKED ON A DAILY BASIS NEXT WEEK AS SOME CHILDREN ARE FAILING TO READ ON A REGULAR BASIS.  EACH CHILD IS REQUIRED TO READ FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES ON 5 OUT OF 7 DAYS.  WE WILL BE CHECKING FOR AN ADULT'S SIGNATURE EVERYDAY NEXT WEEK TO CHECK THAT THIS ESSENTIAL READING PRACTISE IS HAPPENING.
