Week beginning 11.7.16
I cannot believe how quickly this week has come around again. We have been keeping so busy and the time has just flown by!
We had our Star Wars Spelling Bee this week and the children showed me just how hard they have been working on their spellings all term! We also had the year 2 award ceremony and were able to chow the children just how much we appreciated their positive attitudes to learning and their individuality.
This was followed by the year 2's got talent performances which all of the staff and children really enjoyed! Our bouncy castle and ice pops treat was a great end to the week and showed the children just how much we have enjoyed having them this year.
Week beginning 4.7.16
This week has absolutely flown by! It has been so packed full of learning the children have really enjoyed it. The week started with the children spending a day or two with their new class teacher for next year; they all came back so excited and ready to move forward and had a great time with their new teachers.
We then has a full on day at Holdenby house, where we explored what life was like in the Victorian times. It was so practical and such a great experience for the children to have. They all came back and wrote some amazing recounts about their day and they all behaved wonderfully all day.
We have also been doing some maths investigations and lots of PE this week, which we have all enjoyed as we got to spend lots of time in the sunshine.

This week has been so busy and exciting! The children absolutely loved our sports day on Tuesday, they worked incredibly well in teams and showed great team spirit. The older children lead the teams so well and made all of us teachers very proud. The children got to take part in so many games and races and all around really enjoyed the day.
The children in my class particularly enjoyed doing art this week with Mrs Etherington. They looked carefully at different artists' techniques of drawing Alice in wonderland portraits and had a go at making their own. The quality of work they have produced is just fantastic and is displayed on the wall outside the classroom if you want to have a look! :)
The summer fair was also a big highlight for us all this week; we got to show our dances that we have been practicing for weeks and all of the children did so well to keep in time and remember all of the steps.

Week beginning 20.6.16
This week has been a special history week! We transformed our classroom into a Victorian classroom and followed Victorian rules. We have spent this week looking at rich and poor people in those times using drama techniques to act out different scenarios in groups. From this the children have written some fantastic diary entries from other children's perspectives using great vocabulary.
We have been practicing for our summer fair performances together and the children can continue to do this by watching the videos below.
It's been a great week of stepping back in time and the children have really loved becoming Victorians.

Week beginning 13.6.16
This week started with a great Monday; we spent time looking at Alice in wonderland. We went through the story together and thought about the different sentence types involved for our English, then we had a go at writing our own sentences related to the story using exclamation marks and question marks.
Unfortunately I was off with tonsillitis in the middle of the week but I was so glad to come back on Friday and hear how wonderful my children have been. They have all worked very hard in my absence and made great collages as groups with different adults. They children were also looking at money and spending money using different coins.
The children have also really enjoyed our history this week and love learning about the Victorians ready for our trip to Holdenby!

Week beginning 6.6.16
This week has been a brilliant week back. We have come back refreshed and ready to learn and it has definitely shown in the children's work. We have been working hard to improve our skills in PE ready for sports day next week! We have also began thinking about our new science topic of animals, which the children have really enjoyed.
In English, we have been looking at poetry and the different features included in poems as well as having a go at writing our own for our cold tasks. In maths we have been looking at fractions of shapes and numbers as well as addition and subtraction. The children have worked so hard already this week and I know it's going to be a term full of exciting learning for us all.
Week beginning 23.5.16
Both myself and all of the children in the class have really enjoyed this week! It has been so packed full of exciting activities and learning that it has flown by. The children have written their hot tasks on a traditional tale, and they are brilliant! They have worked so hard to include key features of a traditional tale and their handwriting is really improving.
In maths we have been looking at shape and measurement, involving the children measuring using different scales and objects e.g cm, ml, and g.
Friday was a brilliant day, as we had our spelling bee in the morning and a treasure hunt! The treasure hunt involved children searching the school for letters, to then make words with. We will definitely be doing this again as it was so much fun for me and the children! Then to finish our day and our term, we got into our PJ's and watched a film with popcorn and snacks!

Week beginning 16.5.16
This week has been so busy and has just flown by! The year 2's have spent this week finishing their tests and have done so well to stay focused and try so hard even though they were very tricky at times! The year 1's have spent lots of time together with Mrs Viney and Mrs Clucas' year 1's doing lots of drama and story telling of little red riding hood. They have also been doing lots of art activities together and have really enjoyed it.
I am so proud of my year 2 children for all of their hard work and I hope they are so proud of themselves for all that they have achieved.
We have been so busy that we haven't even had our treat for filling the gem jar this week; so it will be on Friday. We are looking forward to a treasure hunt and PJ and cinema afternoon!
What a brilliant week of being completely green, we re already looking forward to the week to come!
Week beginning 9.5.16
This week we have been carrying on our story of Baba Yaga, learning the story map and acting it out. The children really enjoyed being the different characters in the story and this led to some fantastic independent writing!
We have been doing a lot of maths this week; using place value to understand tens and units, working through methods of addition and subtraction and using our knowledge of pictographs and bar charts to answer questions about data. Year 2's have been getting ready for their maths SATs next week and working so hard to practice their times tables.
For ICT we are still photographers, editing and improving our photographs of plants that we took around school. We had a brilliant science investigation of sycamore seeds; the children designed their own in groups and tested which would be the best at dispersing seeds. In PE we have been learning how to cha cha! This is part of our strictly dance routine ready for the summer fair next term.

Week beginning 2.5.16
This week has been a tricky week for us all, the year 2 children have been taking parts in tests to show their learning over the past few terms and the year 1's have been carrying out traditional tale activities involving drama and teamwork.
We were lucky enough this week to get a visit from a brass quintet! It was a brilliant performance and all of the children really enjoyed taking part in the singing and learning about different brass instruments.
We have really enjoyed our topic lessons this week as they have been full of creativity and fun. In art, we have been using wallis as an inspiration to design our own patterns. In science we have been finding out about how plants adapt to their environment and looking at different plant features. In ICT we are beginning to edit our own photos of plants and understand editing software.
A brilliant week full of hard work! :)

Week beginning 25.4.16
This week has been so busy and full of learning! Our maths learning this week has involved using clocks to tell the time to half and quarter hours, finding fractions of shapes and numbers and using the inverse to find the answers to number sentences. So much maths and quite tricky parts, but the children have all worked very hard and persisted with their learning.
In English, we have been learning the story of Baba Yaga, which is a Russian traditional tale involving a witch and magical items! We made a story map of it and have practiced it together to write up our own version.
We had the exciting opportunity this week to watch a performance by year 3 and 4 of African drumming and dancing! The children absolutely loved it and really inspired them to join in and create a rhythm.

Week beginning 18.4.16
This week we have been throwing ourselves into our new topic! It has been so much fun learning different traditional stories and using drama techniques to act them out. We have also be writing our best sentences and stacking them to create paragraphs of descriptive writing.
In maths we have been looking at different ways to add and subtract, using a variety apparatus and methods. Our topic work has also been great fun, learning about different wild flowers in science, Henry Rousseau in art and comparing forests and jungles in geography. The children really enjoyed our PE lessons this week, we have been practicing our ball skills and playing games as teams.
The school disco was a brilliant success and the children absolutely loved it so thank you to every body that helped and took part, it was a great evening for them! :)

Week beginning 12.4.16
It has been a great start to the term this week, full of fun. We launched our new topic of 'Once upon a time...' by using drama techniques to act out traditional tales that we knew. We orally told each other stories and began to think about what different characters, settings and events occur in them.
We have been learning how to divide and multiply using different methods in maths, which we have tried very hard with and have come a long way.
Our kinetic letters have been improving so much and some of the year 2 children are now having a go at joining their letters together. I am starting to see kinetic letters in all of the children s work across the subjects, which is great and the children really enjoy improving the presentation of their work.
In our art lessons, we have been creating different fairy tale characters, in science we have been looking at the season of spring and what it is like compared to other seasons. In ICT we are photographers and we are learning how to take a good photograph.

Week beginning: 21.3.16
What a lovely end to the term... although this week and this term have been shorter, we have still packed so much learning in to it and the children have worked so hard! This week we have been finishing our topic of Destination: Space! which we have all enjoyed so much! We have been finishing up our writing of information texts and in maths we have been using our number skills to solve word problems.
I am so proud of all of the children, working so hard to improve their spellings and practice at home; it has really shown such an improvement and we had so many spelling bee winners today!
We were really lucky to have some firemen come and visit us on Wednesday and give us a Fire Safety Talk. This helped the children to think about how to stay safe, not only in a fire but also in a car and at home.
I would like to say a big thank you also to all of the parents for coming in on parents evening, it was lovely to see you all and catch up on how wonderfully your children are getting on. This class is a pleasure to teach and we enjoy every day in our classroom :)
So have a great Easter holiday everyone, stay safe and I look forward to starting a new topic and creating some fun new learning experiences when we all get back from a well deserved break!

Week beginning 14.3.16
This week we have had so many highlights and best parts of learning. The children really enjoyed our sports relief morning, as they got to take part in many activities and games involving key physical skills and team work. They were all beautifully behaved and worked very well together in good competition.
We have been creating our own PowerPoint presentations in ICT this week, which we have all very much enjoyed doing. They are based on our learning about the International Space Station in literacy and mean transferring a lot of our knowledge into different fonts and formats.
In maths we have been looking at inverses; using addition and subtraction number sentences to check if our answers are correct. The children picked this up incredibly quickly and I was very impressed to see how well they all understood it!

Week beginning 7.3.16
This week has been very active and lots of fun. We have been learning how to tell the time on analogue clocks and we have been doing this practically on the carpet to help us really understand the concept. The children found it tricky to start with but persevered and really impressed me with their determination.
We have been finding out all about the International Space Station ready to write up about it. We have found so many amazing facts and are really looking forward to putting this into writing.
For science this week, we went on a walk to Shady lane to investigate all of the different plants, trees, shrubs and bushes we could find and try to identify their names. We also checked on the progress of the trees we planted before and they are looking very good, soon to bloom. Great behavior this week from everybody!
Week beginning 29.2.16
This week has gone so fast! We have been enjoying so much of our learning this week and we especially enjoyed world book day! All of the children were so excited but so well behaved and they took part in some great activities including listening to different adults read their favourite book around the school and writing their own book reviews for their favourites also. The whole school really enjoyed world book day and we are still waiting to hear if we are part of the new world record for being involved in the quiz last week!
We have been working on fractions of numbers in maths, which is always a really tricky part of maths to understand, but the children worked really hard and persevered, which resulted in some great maths work being produced and the children feeling very proud of what they achieved.
In english, we have been looking at and sorting different types of books, including fiction and non-fiction. This fitted in really well with world book day and they children enjoyed exploring different books, including those linked to our topic of destination: space!
Overall a fantastic, totally green week of learning :)

Week beginning 22.2.16
This week has been so busy and full of fun; a great week back from half term! We started the week back with an attempt to get into the Guinness Book of World Records by taking part in a whole school book quiz! The children enjoyed it very much and we had many winners which took home a book token to spend on a book of their choice.
Then on the Tuesday we spent the day at the Think Tank in Birmingham, which was a fantastic opportunity for the children to explore everything in the world of science, practically and through fun activities. The recounts that we wrote after this trip were also so inspired and full of brilliant memories the children had already made there.
The rest of the week has been full of learning, including our new science topic of plants; planting our own beans and looking after them. Also, in maths we have been looking at place value and what numbers are greater than or less than each other using mathematical symbols.
I'm so proud of all of the children in my class, for their excellent behavior on the trip and for their willingness to come straight back into school after half term with positive and ready to learn attitudes.

Week beginning 8.2.15
We have had a great last week of term; it has gone by so quickly! The children have been doing so much learning this week and we have been preparing for exciting events on the week back such as our trip to the Think Tank, to explore materials and space. Also, on the Monday we come back, we are going to try to set a record in the Guinness book of world records by taking part in a book quiz across the school all at the same time!
We have been really enjoying our lessons this week. Our ICT has allowed us to become further programmers and use our skills learnt previously to set algorithms to move our own designs. In science we have been looking at our materials for the last week before moving on to plants next term. We were identifying and sorting different materials into natural and man-made and finding out where they come from and how they are made.
Our spelling bee was a great success and we have so many winners! Which shows just how much the children have been trying to learn their spellings which is very much appreciated, the amount they're reading at home is great also!
A very well deserved break for this term but looking forward to the next one also. :)

Week beginning 1.2.16
This week I have been blown away with the children's writing in english; they have been creating their own story maps on their 'Toys in Space' book and then using them to write up their own story, a paragraph at a time and responding to feedback each time.
They have also been working very hard in maths, using their skills to double and half as well as using money. They have been adding using coins and finding out how to give change back once something has been paid for.
In science we have been looking at winter and comparing what is it like to autumn from our work we did last term. We have also been investigating how animals stay warm in the water and what is the best way for us to stay warm.
Our Tuesday afternoon was very exciting; we watched Tim Peak LIVE through the Cosmic Classroom and were able to watch him answer questions on how he lives in space! He also did some fantastic tricks with water up there and we had the opportunity to watch it all!
In ICT we were carrying on with our programming and animations to do with space and we have been looking at moving our creations using our programming skills.
On Friday morning, we had a Maths morning, which involved the children being put in different groups and carrying out lots of fun activities in different classrooms all morning. A brilliant week this week! :)

Week beginning 25.1.16
This week in English we have been learning about a story called Toys in Space and we have been working in pairs to build our sentences and make them as juicy as we can. In maths we have been looking at direction and turns. We have been using grids to give each other specific instructions on how get from one planet to the other. This has been quite tricky for us but we worked really hard with our directional language and now we can give brilliant directions using key words such as quarter and half turns.
Both myself and the children have really enjoyed our science this week; it involved us carrying out an investigation on the best material to make a space suit from. We made our own eggonauts and we used different materials to test whether they would protect our space eggonaut from damage. The children really enjoyed this investigation.
We also found ICT a lot of fun this week as we have been using the programme Scratch to create our own pictures and are becoming programming astronauts! A brilliant green week this week well done to everyone! :)

Week beginning 18.1.16
It's hard to believe that we're half way through this term already! The children have been working so hard and really putting their all into their learning this week. I have seen such great improvements in their writing; they are all really starting to take on board the kinetic letters style of handwriting now and it looks great. Also, the children have done a lot of reading this week, both independently and in groups, and the team work I have been seeing is just brilliant. Many of them willing to support each other so well and listen carefully to each other read.
Our topic has continued to be very exciting. We have been acting out the space landing and navigating our way through space! We have been looking at different inventions to do with space and learning about why they were invented.
In maths, we have been focusing on division and the children have really worked hard with it, using their understanding of multiplication to work out what a division sentence would look like. Also, we have been exploring a story called LaLuna in english, and building sentences together with fantastic vocabulary.
The children have all worked brilliantly this week and have had a great green week! :)

Week beginning 11.1.16
This week has been a brilliant week for learning more about our topic of space, we have enjoyed our science lesson, which took us outside and we acted as the planets, orbiting around the sun and spinning past each other! It was a brilliant way of getting the children to remember the planets in our solar system and was a lot fun.
Our English lessons have been looking at the stories of Dr.Xargle and becoming experts on a specific animal to write a story about. I have been really impressed with all of the children in the classroom in our maths lessons, we have been doing multiplication and it was a challenge to get to grips with understanding how to group our numbers but they really got stuck in and didn't give up so I am very proud of the whole class for that.
We have had a great week of learning and are all completely green! :)

Week beginning 4.1.16
What a great start to a new term! We have launched our new topic of 'Destination: Space!' by going into space on Tuesday! We all got in our rockets and buckled up, taking a tour of our solar system, looking at the different planets; the children really enjoyed this and it lead them to do some fantastic writing in English.
I am really impressed with how they have all gotten straight back into their learning, especially in maths. We have been looking at place value and partitioning and the children have really stuck with it! We did an ice investigation in science, where the children had to explore the best place to stop ice cubes from melting. Also in history, we have been discovering all about the history of space and the different animals that have been sent up over the year.
Already looking forward to next week, to carry on with our exciting topic. A completely green week this week!
Week beginning 14. 12.15
This week has been packed full with Christmas activities and events. The children have been creating, crafting and quizzing!
We have really enjoyed making Christmas wreaths and baking gingerbread reindeer's. We have also been making calendars and cards to give out to family and friends. We even had a visit from Santa Claus this week, he gave us all presents!
The children are all so excited for Christmas and have been so much fun to teach this term. I know next term will be just as great, filled with learning and exciting lessons! Merry Christmas! See you all in the new year! :)

Week beginning 7.12.15
This week I have been so proud of all of the children taking part in the play; they all worked so hard to remember their lines and song words and thank you to all grown ups at home that helped support us with those! It was a fantastic performance and the children were all very proud of themselves.
We have been carrying on with our maths this week, looking at addition and our history has been on how London has changed, before and after the great fire.
We have been writing letters to Santa which the children have really enjoyed and it's getting us all very excited for Christmas! Another all green week! :)

Week beginning 30.11.12
This week we have been focusing our literacy work on the story of the Stickman, the children have really enjoyed acting it out into drama scenes and re-telling the story in writing.
Our maths has been carrying on with fractions and I am really impressed with the children's determination to get it right because it is a very tricky unit! We performed our play to the rest of the school for the first time and it went really well! I am really looking forward to the full performances on Monday and Tuesday.
It's getting close to Christmas now and we're all getting very excited about it but the children are continuing to work hard and behave well, which is fantastic as we have managed to be totally green again! :)

Week beginning 23.11.15
This week we have been working on fractions in maths! Which is normally a really tricky unit of maths but the children did really well with it; using their problem solving skills to work out halves and quarters of shapes.
We had a very exciting day in which we placed all of our houses in the playground to look like pudding lane, then we set them on fire! The children could then see first hand what the fire would have looked like (on a much smaller scale!) and why it had spread so quickly. Then we passed a bucket of water down the line to help put the fire out. The children were very inspired by this activity and went on to produce some fantastic quality recounts of what happened.

Week beginning 16.11.15
This week we had an unexpected visit from a storybook wolf! We came in on Monday morning to a messy classroom with all of our food half eaten and paw prints on our floor! After much investigating we discovered the culprit was a story book wolf and found out that he had been to visit Mrs Viney and Mrs Clucas' class also! So we wrote a set of instructions to catch this story book wolf and the children really enjoyed their role as investigators.
In maths this week we have been working on doubling and halving numbers and have been carrying on with our learning of different materials in Science. In DT we have been building and painting our Pudding Lane houses so thank you for all of your spare cardboard boxes! :)
We now have a board of 'Our achievements' on our display outside the classroom so come and have a look at what we have achieved as a class this term... from our spelling bee winners to our Mr Ford award and much more! A fantastic totally green week this week!

Week beginning 9.11.15
This week we had a bake off in the bakery of pudding lane! All of the children really enjoyed perfecting their scone recipes and adding their secret ingredients. We went planting in shady lane and worked in groups to plant an apple tree, blackberry bush and butterfly bush. They all worked so well as a team and took turns patiently.
Our literacy week has included writing instructions on how to catch a gingerbread boy and our maths has been on addition and subtraction, using our understanding of number bonds to answer word problems. We are still investigators of materials in science and are enjoying finding out about why we use different materials for certain objects.
We are going to start casting and rehearsing our Christmas play next week and look forward to singing our anti-bullying rap!

Week beginning 2.11.15
We have had a very busy week! We have picked straight back up on our learning and the children have really enjoyed learning about the great fire of London. We have discovered that there is a 'firebird' in our school and we are planning a set of instructions in literacy to catch it! We have also been baking this week; we have been using our skills of measurement and team work to bake scones, ready for our bake off next week. This is when the children will bake scones using their secret ingredients for special judges to declare a winner!
The children loved the reward for filling their jar! Friday afternoon was spent watching Monsters Inc in our Pyjamas with popcorn and snacks! To top off the brilliant week we have had, we have won the Mr Ford award! This was for looking after our classroom and keeping our working spaces neat and tidy.

Week beginning 19.10.15
This week has been a wonderful end to the term; we have enjoyed so much learning in all of our lessons. In literacy we have been writing instructions on how to catch a magical creature and in maths we have been naming and describing 2D shapes. We have started looking at the great fire of London and how it started!
I very much enjoyed the opportunity to share with all of the parents how their children are getting on and all of the achievements of the class in parents evening, so thank you for that parents.
Our languages day was a great way to learn about food all around the world and how it gets to us, as well as being able to taste lots of different exciting foods. We have had a great green week this week and look forward to a well deserved break for all of the children; ready to come back to more learning! :)

Our first week on our new topic 'Bright Sparks' has been fantastic! We have begun to look at fire's and how to stay safe. Our visit from the fire engine was so exciting and the children really enjoyed learning about the different parts of the vehicle and having a go at squirting the hose! Our writing afterwards was brilliant and they really used great language to describe the visit. In maths we have been looking at number and how to find patterns in number sequences. We have begun to paint our clay faces this week in art and they are looking just like some of the children! Another great week this week! Totally green! :)

This week was our last week on our topic 'Its amazing to be me' and we have really enjoyed it! We were clay makers in Art, carefully structuring our own faces, ready to paint them next week. In maths we have been looking at addition and subtraction and a lot of the children have challenged themselves into using both of them! We had an exciting message from The Queen! She wanted to know why Bugbrooke was a good village to live in, so the children made their own posters, leaflets and maps! This week has been so packed full of learning, a huge well done to all of us for all being totally green! :)

Week beginning 28.9.25
This week we have been focusing on our writing skills in literacy; how to make juicy sentences using sentence starters and adjectives. The children have produced some fantastic stories about a lost toy. In maths we have been measuring in exciting ways, using objects and metre sticks to record how long the classroom and ourselves are. Our art has been a great way to use our painting skills carefully ready for clay making next week! In science we have been looking at different animal senses and how they relate to ours, as well as conducting a traffic survey outside the school on the grass for geography, which the children really enjoyed! A great week of learning for a totally green class!

Week beginning 21.9.15
This week we've been working really hard on our investigation skills in science; looking at our senses and what they mean for us.
We've been looking at money in maths and I've been really impressed with the children's determination to keep going because it can be such a tricky part of maths to understand.
We have enjoyed reflecting on our walk around Bugbrooke in geography and mixing primary colours to make secondary ones in art.
It's been a very positive and fun week and we've done some great learning.

This week we have been working on our writing in literacy through making story maps, then putting our pictures into writing. The children have done so well and have used great vocabulary and really interesting language! In our maths we have been learning number bonds and have used lots of different resources to make our learning fun. We had a special visit from Rex the rabbit and the children really enjoyed writing about the different features of animals in our science. We also went on a walk around the village to discover our local environment and help to understand the Bugbrooke Community. Overall, a great week of learning and discovery, being a totally green class!

Week beginning 7.9.15
This children this week have been really challenging themselves in every lesson; from PE when we have been balancing and varying our speed of travel, to maths, as we have been using lots of different resources to count up in tens and more! Our literacy has been focused on our book of 'Knuffle Bunny' and we have been acting out some of the key scenes and writing about them. The children really enjoyed the taster sessions of Dodgeball and Jado this week; there should be letters in book bags if any would like to sign up. In science we have been looking at the human body and what parts we are made up, which involved the children drawing around themselves and investigating what body parts are used for. Overall, a very fun filled week with lots of great learning. Well done to everyone... We were all totally green again this week! :)
Week beginning 31.8.15
Although it has been a short week this week, it has been great for the children to get to know each other and settle in. We have already begun some fantastic lessons including painting our portraits and creating our own Mr Men! The children have also been looking at different feelings to help them settle in nicely to the changes of their new class. It's been great fun already and I can tell we're going to really enjoy our learning this year with an already 'totally green' few days!
