Miss Clarke’s Clever Class News- 08.07.16
I have been blown away with how brilliant every child has been this week. They have all been working incredibly hard and determined to make it to the end of the year as a green class!
In Maths, the children have been displaying their knowledge of number. In groups they have worked together to solve different problems I have given them. The conversation that has taken place between the children demonstrate the confidence each of them is gaining towards their Maths work. I was particularly impressed with how children were challenging each other if they disagreed with something that had been said.
In English, we have remembered the different things each child did whilst on transition day. The children have also written a story that I am very excited to read.

Miss Clarke’s Clever Class News- 01.07.16
The children in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class have had a wonderful week of learning.
In English, we started to explore how to write balanced arguments. The children worked in groups to create verbal arguments about the advantages and disadvantages of living in the Stone Age and in the modern day. The children were able to create key reasons for each of the different points of view. They then added different connectives to help them create their balanced arguments. We will be writing these up in the next couple of weeks.
In Maths, we have revised written methods for addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. I have been amazed at how the children have been able to remember the different written methods for each operation.
We have also been busy getting ready for the Summer Fete. The children have loved learning an Africa dance that will be performed to the Summer Fete King and Queen.

This week I been blown away by how hard the class have worked this week!
In English, the children have continued their work on letter and diary writing. The children have worked extremely hard to include all the different feature of these types on writing. I really enjoyed reading their diary entries and finding out their opinions on their time in school.
In Maths, we have been focusing on scaling numbers and shapes up and down. The children showed lots of determination towards their Maths work. This week we have also been focusing on our times tables knowledge again. It’s clear that more children are now practising their times tables at home.

Miss Clarke’s Clever Class News- 10.6.16
Well, what a fantastic first week back all the children have had. They have all come back to school displaying excellent attitudes towards their learning!
We had a visit this week from Stone Age Steve. The children enjoyed a hands on morning of learning about the Stone Age which is our new topic this term. The children had the opportunity to hold different artefacts. They were all so excited to learn about people in the Stone Age.
In English, we have been focusing on letter writing. The children have begun to write a letter to a Stone Age child talking about their daily routine. They had to think carefully about the layout of a letter and what type of language they would use when writing a letter to a friend.
In Maths, we have been working hard on our times tables all week. The children have been doing lots of different activities based on different times tables, exploring factors of numbers and looking at division facts. The children have worked extremely hard and all made progress in one of their times tables.

It's been another busy week in Miss Clarke's Clever Class!
It's been assessment week in year 3 and 4. I have been extremely proud of how hard all the children have worked. Even when they have found questions difficult they have tried their very best to answer them,
In the afternoon, I have been wowed by the children's amazing mini-mission homework. I have learnt something new about every child.
I hope that everyone has a well deserved rest and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 6th June.

Another wonderful week of learning for all children in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class!
In English, we have continued work on our Dinosaur fact file. The children have written draft paragraphs for each area they have researched. The children will then put all of this work on to A3 paper and add pictures to help create their final draft.
In Maths, our week has focus around fraction. Some children have for this very tricky however, I have been impressed with their determination to keep going. The children have been find fractions of quantities, equivalent fraction, how to add and subtract different fraction and finally how to order and compare fraction.
The children all agreed that if they knew their timetables better it would be easier to answer fraction question. So remember keep practising your timetables at home!
As it has been healthy child week we had a visit from Diana from Tesco’s. The children learnt how to make muesli. Lots of the children really enjoyed making and trying new food they hadn’t had before. The children will be bring home the list of ingredients they tried.

Another amazing week of learning for all the children in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class. The children never fail to blow me away with their determination to be the best they can be!
In Maths, we have been focussing on place value. The children have explored placing 3 and 4 digit numbers on blank numberline, the value of each digit and even how we can compare and order different numbers. Some children have also been doing lots of work involving decimals. I have notice that lots of children have been pushing themselves to try and reach the next level.
In English we have started to research different dinosaurs. We have created teams and each team have given themselves a dinosaur themed names. They worked together to design and front cover and write a page about the time the dinosaurs they chose existed. They then chose 8 different dinosaur they will create fact files for. The children have demonstrated great team work throughout this project.
We have all really enjoy our ukulele lesson this week. We have even learnt our first song from beginning to end!

Miss Clarke’s Clever Class News- 6.5.16
What an incredible week of learning the children in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class have had.
At the start of the week it was wonderful hearing all the stories from the children about the fantastic week they previously had. We also watch a video of the African drumming and dancing and were blown away with how brilliant everyone did.
In English, we have completed writing our mystery/ horror stories. Miss Clarke has been hooked by every single story the children have written. We have created our final draft and written them in our neatest kinetic letters. We have designed and create front covers for our books to be on display and for other children to read.
In Maths, we have been revising different written methods for addition and subtraction. After a bit of a wobbly start the children have wowed me with how much they have actually remember. Lots of children have moved on to working with 3 and 4 digit numbers. Some children have also started to answer number sentences using decimals.
The children have also really enjoyed cooking this week and making cheese scones! Miss knows that they all thought they were tasty! The children have also been learning to play the ukulele. Miss Clarke has been impressed with the focus the children have shown in these session and we all look forward to learning some new songs.

Miss Clarke’s Clever Class News- 22.4.16
What an incredible week of learning we have had in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class!
In English, we started the week off with a poetry recital to the whole of year 3 and 4. Everyone joined in and Miss Clarke was amazed with all the different actions the children had added to each of the verses. We then began to explore mystery/horror stories. The children are very excited about the genre of stories. This has been evident in their writing as each child is pushing themselves to use the ‘boomtastics’ and ‘fantastics’.
In Maths, we have been focussing on shape. It’s been a very practical maths week which the children have loved. We have been using iPads to create presentation to show the different properties of shapes, creating criteria to sort shapes, learning all about nets of shapes, the different types of angles and finally identifying lines of symmetry. Some children even started to explore rotational symmetry.
The children have also really enjoyed cooking this week. They made pizza that all the children said were very tasty!

Miss Clarke’s Clever Class News- 15.4.16
What a fantastic first week back we have had.
The beginning of the week started off with the children receiving a very exciting letter. We began exploring the school ground to try and discover dinosaur egg fossils! The children demonstrated great team work during this activity which meant everyone was successful in finding one.
In English, we have started to learn a poem that the children are going to be reciting to the rest of the year group on Monday. The children then create a poem based on a dinosaur of their choice. The children pushed themselves to use lots of different ‘boomtastic’ which impressed Miss Clarke!
In Maths, we have been focussing on place value and money. The children have taken part in lots of practical Maths. We have also been working with money. The children had the opportunity to buy different items and figure correct change that should be given.

Miss Clarke’s Clever Class News 24.3.16
What an incredible last week of term we have had. Everyone in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class has work amazing hard and I have been super impressed with the effort everyone has put into their learning!
In English, we have continued our work on instructions. This week the children have each written a set of instruction for ‘How to make a canopic jar.’ All the children impressed me as they have remembered to include time connectives and imperative verbs. A fantastic job!
In Maths, we have been revising different method of addition and subtraction and how to apply the methods they know to word problems. All the children tried extremely and Miss Clarke was amazed at the work they completed.
A fantastic final week had by everyone. Enjoy your Easter holidays and I look forward to seeing you all in the new term.

Another fantastic week doing loads of fun work!
This week in English we have been focusing on instructions and we have learnt how to make a decent cup tea made by Miss Clarke
In maths we have been concentrating on multiplication and division.
We have been using the column multiplication and the grid method. Also we have been using the bus stop method and repeated addition on a number line and chunking on a number line.
In fabulous French we have been making Easter cards for our French pen pals. Which was really fun.
With Mrs Etherington in art we have been making freezes of Egyptian people.
We have also been painting our canopic jars with Miss Clarke.
On Friday (Today) for sport relief we have all walked a mile with obstacles along the way

Miss Clarke’s Clever Class News- 11.3.16
It has been another amazing week of learning for all the children in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class!
In English this week the children have continued their work on story writing. We have finished reading our class story ‘Giant’. The children have all worked extremely hard. They have been trying hard to include the ‘boomtastics’ and ‘fantastics’ in their work. Some children have even tried to use subordinating clauses in their writing.
In Maths, we have been focussing on fractions. The children have learnt how to find quantities of fractions, how to add fractions, how to compare and how to place fractions on a numberline. All the children have tried their best and it’s clear as all of them have made improvements in different areas.
We had our first ‘Artanoon’ of the year! This was enjoyed by everyone involved. The children all designed and created, out of clay, their own canopic jars. They all worked as a team and Miss Clarke has been very impressed with the work they produced.

Wicked World Book Day
On Thursday 3rd March World Book Day took place at Bugbrooke School. Each child dressed up in weird and wacky costumes from their favourite book. Potter was the most popular obviously!
First all the children had an assemble to show off their crazy costumes, there was a Willy Wonka (he didn't bring us any chocolate), Gangsta Granny and Dorothy. Snow White (Miss Clarke) had the best costume.
For the rest of the day we did fun activities based on ‘The very Hungry Caterpillar’. The day was awesome! Evie exclaimed “It was a very enjoyable day!” Bobby particular enjoyed making his book.

Miss Clarke’s Clever Class News- 4.3.16
We have had another amazing week of learning in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class!
In English, we have been exploring a book called ‘Giant’. We have been writing effective sentences about ‘Giant’. We have looked at how to write sentences to describe a setting and different characters in the book. We also started to look at how we used speech marks in our work.
In Maths, we have been focusing on time and co-ordinates. We split up into groups and took part in a time carousel. We also had to plot different point on the x and y axis. Everyone thought this was a really fun lesson.

We have had a brilliant first week back doing lots of fun learning.
In English we created fact files on mountains which helped us make up poems one from the climbers point of view.
In Maths the year 4’s have been placing decimals on a number line and the year 3’s have been multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100.
In PE we have been getting ready for Woodford Halse by doing the Big Run.
We would never miss out Art with Mrs Etherington and French with Mrs Brickwood.
We have made some delicious bread with Mrs Matthison.

An excellent finial week of this term!
In English, we have been focussing on non-chronological reports. We have carried on with the bee theme that the children have been inspired by. We began the week with finding all the features of a non-chronological report. This has led to the children thinking of key questions to research. We have then create A3 poster to display all the interesting information they have discovered.
In Maths, we have been exploring measure and data. We began the week by using different units of measure to measure different objects in and around the school grounds. We also complete some data handling work. The children created key question that they wanted to research and asked members of the class the answer them. The children then create a bar graph to show their findings.

Another fantastic week of learning for all the children in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class.
In English, we’ve continued to explore the Book Varmints. The children have been using relative and subordinating clauses to up level their writing. I have been very impressed with the descriptive language all the children have been pushing themselves to use.
In Maths, the children have be revising methods of division and multiplication. We have also been exploring equivalent fractions. The children put so much effort into their Maths this week.
The children have also really enjoyed their cooking session. The children learnt how to make fruit kebabs. They also explored all the benefits of eating fresh fruit and veg.

Wow! I can not believe that another week has flown by. The learning that the children have been apart
of this week has been amazing!
We started the week exploring the world of bees. The children had to research the effect that everyday life is having on these creatures. This then lead to the children creating 'Save the Bees' campaign posters. The teamwork and effort that went it this was outstanding. The poster will be displayed in our classroom for any visitors to see.
In English, we started to explore the story 'Varmints'. The children have been using the ‘boomtastics’ and ‘fantastics’ to help write dramatic descriptive sentences. All children have continued to impress me with the way they constantly try to improve their own work. It demonstrates a love from their learning and desire to be the best they can be.
In Maths, we have focused on subtraction. Some children have found this very tricky but they have demonstrated great determination and pushed themselves to answer question they might not have tried before.

Another wonderful week full of fantastic earning for all the children in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class!
In literacy, we have continued to read ‘The Time Travelling Cat’. The children have been using ‘boomtastics’ and ‘fantastics’ to help them write description of a cat, and to help write a descriptive paragraph as if they were Topher from the story. Miss Clarke was WOWED by the amazing vocabulary the children pushed themselves to use.
In Maths, the children have been learning how to do column addition. The children then had to apply this to answer word and money problems.
An exciting part of our week had to be when we discovered Howard Carter’s suitcase. The children had to travel through cave with torches and find what item Howard Carter had in his case. They all found this incredibly fun and wanted to know more about what Howard Carter did.

What another fantastic week all the children in Miss Clarke’s Class have had!
In English, we have begun to read ‘The Time Travelling Cat’. The children have been exploring the characters and writing what their initial thoughts of each characters are. Miss Clarke has been very impressed with the language the children have been using in their writing. Lots of them have been using a thesaurus to find better words to use in their writing.
In Maths, We have been exploring place value. I have been wowed by what the children have remembered from previous work and the effort they have been putting into their work this week. We have been focusing on ordering numbers, finding the value of each digit, negative numbers and how we can plot numbers on a numberline.

Miss Clarke’s Clever Class News- 8.1.16
Well what an incredible first week back at school it has been for all the children in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class. They have come back focussed and ready to learn!
We began to explore our new topic, Mummy Knows Best. We began by investigating modern day Egypt. The children were able to use holiday brochures and laptops to find facts and use this to create a persuasive advert and poster. Miss Clarke was blown away by how many different feature of persuasive writing the children had managed to remember.
The whole of year 3 and 4 witness a Mummification show! The children were so focus on what they could see and hear. They were told all about the different stages of a mummification, then they had to write a recount of the afternoon! All the children remember lots of specific details that the priest had spoken about.
In Maths, the children have been doing lots of work on fraction. In fact we had a Fraction Friday! The children have been finding unit and non-unit fraction of amounts and have even progressed to answering word problems all about fraction!
A wonderful first week back. Miss Clarke looks forward to seeing the rest of the terms work after such a brilliant start!
Miss Clarke’s Clever Class News- 18.12.15
What an amazing final week we have had in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class! All the children have been very excited for Christmas but this hasn't stopped them wanting to learn.
We started our last week of term with a very exciting day. All the children took part if the Year 3 and 4 Christmas Decoration Day! We made sock snowmen, melted snowmen biscuits and Father Christmas cards. All the children loved the day and all worked hard to do their best.
On Tuesday children from KS2 went down to the church to practice for the KS2 Carol Concert. All the children who took part in this blew me away with their wonderful singing.
We have written some lovely poems based on the true meaning of Christmas.
We also exploded fractions by making some Christmas party hats.

Well what an amazing week all the children in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class have had.
The main focus of our week has been the Year 3 and 4 production. The children have work extremely hard on this and it definitely paid off. The performances to parents were outstanding good. Many parent and grandparent have commented on how well all the children did. This show has made me a very proud teacher. Thank you to everyone who came and showed their support to the children!
Even though our main focus has been our production this has not stopped the children wanting to learn.
In English, we have begun to explore newspaper! The children have been reading newspaper articles and identifying all the features. We have then been creating catchy headlines for different stories the children know.
In Maths, all the children were revising the different methods used for division. I have been amazed by what the children have remembered and their enthusiasm to completing their work.

What a busy week it has been for all the children in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class!
We have been busy preparing for our Christmas performance! I am amazed at how quickly my class have managed to learn their lines and learn words for the songs. We have begun to add actions to our songs. I know all the children are excited to show all their parents and grandparents all the hard work they have been putting into our production.
In English, we have started to explore newspapers and all the features that are included in newspaper. We will be continuing with this next week.
In Maths, the children have been demonstrating the learning they have done over the past term. I have been really happy to see that the children can remember written methods we have been doing.

What an exciting week we have had!
The highlight of the week for all the members of our class has to be the start of our play rehearsals. The children have amazed me with their enthusiasm and commitment to learning their lines and songs.
In Maths, the children have been revising different methods for addition. I have been blown away with how much the children remembered and how they challenged themselves to Be the Best they can Be!
In English, we finished our work on story writing. The children used everything they have learnt to write their own stories. I was excited to read lots of detailed character description, wonderful setting and imaginative plots.

What another amazing week for all the children in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class!
I cannot believe how much learning has taken place in our classroom this week.
One of the biggest changes in our classroom this week had to be the fact we hardly worked on tables. All the children worked laying down on the floor. The children have said they preferred this way of working and would like to carry on doing it!
In Literacy, we have continued our work on story writing. The children worked extremely hard to write a setting for their story. It is clear that all children are pushing themselves to use the best language in their writing.
In Maths, we have been focusing on multiplication and division. The progress that all the children have made in one week has amazed all the adults in our class. The children were definitely displaying the Bugbrooke attitude of Be the Best you can Be!

Miss Clarke’s Clever Class News- 13.11.15
Another incredible week for all the children in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class.
We started the week doing something slightly different on Monday afternoon. The children took part in the Shadey Lane Project. The children worked in teams and gave each other jobs to plant trees or bushes. This was a very exciting way to spend our afternoon and the children loved it!
In Literacy, we have been focussing on story writing. The children have begun to develop character for their stories. This led the children to writing some excellent character descriptions.
In Maths, the children have amazed me with their ‘can do attitudes’ towards column addition and subtraction. For some children this was the first time trying to the column method. The children gave it their all and all showed success.
This week Topic homework was due. The homework has amazed me! The effort that all children have demonstrated has WOWED all members of the year 3 and 4 team. The creative ways that children have presented their work were enjoyed by teachers and the other children.

Miss Clarke’s Clever Class News- 06.11.15
What an incredible first week back all the children in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class have had.
Our focus across English and Topic has been endangered animals. The children were exploring the different endangered animals that they would find in the Amazon Rainforest. We then created poem about these animals. The children were so focussed and enjoyed using the laptops to do their research.
In Maths we have been exploring Place Value. The children had to order 2, 3 and 4 digit numbers. Some children even challenged themselves to order decimals. The children also had to identify the value of different digit within a number. Place Value can be extremely tricky but all the tried their hardest to be the best they can be.

Miss Clarke’s Clever Class News- 23.10.2015
What an incredible last week of term all the children in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class have all had.
In Literacy, the children completed their persuasive posters for their chocolate bars. They have all included slogans, alliteration, rhetorical question and amazing description. I felt pretty hungry whilst reading their poster. I could imagine buying all of them.
We had our first ‘Arternoon’ of the year. The children made the chocolate bars that they had used in their persuasive writing. We then used the IPads to make moving adverts for the chocolate bars.
The children also took part in Languages Day. They were in mixed year groups teams and every teacher mentioned how well the children worked together. The children had the opportunity to try food from around the world, research how far their food travels before it is ready for us to eat and finally the children started to think about food that we are lucky to have and what food we would like to share with people less fortunate than us. It was an amazing day that was enjoyed by all children and all staff!
An amazing week for all. Have a great half term. We will see after half-term ready for some more fantastic learning.

Another amazing week of learning for all the children in Miss Clarke's Clever Class.
The children began to explore persuasive writing. We have started to create adverts for special chocolate bars the children have designed. The children worked extremely hard on this and helped each other out to think of ways to WOW their audience. I look forward to see what the children will produce as a finished poster.
In Maths, we have been demonstrating our mental maths skills and focused on doubling and halving. Miss Clarke was blown away by how hard the children worked and the work that was produced.
One of the highlights of the week had to be cooking! The children have enjoyed there first three weeks of cooking. They have started to explore how to be safe when working in a kitchen and how to make and follow some simple recipes.

Miss Clarke's Clever News- 9.10.15
What an exciting week we have had.
Mr Willy Wonka paid us a visit at the start of the week. We worked in pairs to think of questions that we could ask if we had the chance to interview a character from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We had to think carefully about the questions we asked as we wanted to find out as much information as possible about him. Having the chance to ask Willy Wonka our questions helped us to gain an understanding of his past. We then worked as a class to write the beginning of a character description for Willy Wonka.
In Maths, the children have been focussing on shape. We have been using compasses to help us draw circles. We looked at lines of symmetry and how to sort shapes using different criteria.

Miss Clarke’s Clever News- 25.9.15
This week the children have been exploring Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We have been using our imagination to help us to describe our on candy lands. The children all really enjoyed this activity because they were allowed to think of weird and wonderful sweets they could create.
In Maths, the children were concentrating on either addition or subtraction methods. Some of the children have shown amazing progress using number lines to answer additions sums. Others that have been working on subtraction have now all tried using the column subtraction method. I have been blown away with the drive and determination all the children have displayed this week.
In ICT, I have introduced the children to active learn. This is a website they can access to help with their Maths. I will be setting challenges for the children to complete. The children have all written down the website and all the login information they needs.

Miss Clarke’s Clever Class News- 18.9.15
What an amazing and busy week we have all had!
I cannot believe all the learning the children have taken part in this week.
Our highlight definitely had to be our trip to Cadbury’s World. The children took part in lots of chocolate tasting and also began to discover the history of chocolate and Cadbury’s. The class behaved amazingly and made every teacher proud to be a part of Bugbrooke Primary School.
In English, the children finished their chocolate poems. It made me extremely hungry when reading all of these! We then practice performing our poems to an audience. The children had to add facial expression and hand gestures to make sure they engaged their audience.
In Maths, we finished our work on place value and began to look at mental strategies for addition and subtraction. The children focused well on all activities I asked them to take part in!
Another fantastic week for all the children in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class!

We have had a very exciting week in Miss Clarke’s Clever Class.
We started the week with the launch of our topic, Chocolate MMM…!
The children took part in a fantastic chocolate carousel. They had to use their 5 senses- touch, taste, smell, hear and see to describe chocolate. The children though of really creative adjectives that they are going to use to help them write a poem next week.
In Maths, the have been investigating place value. They have been using their knowledge of place value to help them place 2, 3 and 4 digit numbers on a number line. I have been very impressed with the focus the children demonstrated when working independently.
I have been impressed with the willingness to help one another and make everyone feel welcome.

I could not be any happier with the start all the children have had this year.
They have all come back focussed and wanting to be the best they can be!
We have only been back two days and I cannot believe all the amazing work I have seen from the children.
We shared holiday news and it sounds like everyone had a brilliant break.
To welcome the children back we started to think about what kind of learning environment we would like to achieve in our class. They created a class promise and blew me away with the caring attitudes they demonstrated towards one another already.
We have also been describing what chocolate means to us. The children thought really carefully about the different memories that they have link to chocolate.
The children also produced pieces of art work this week. I set them a challenge of drawing their own school shoe.
An amazing start to the year. I am very excited for the learning journey we will take together.
How can you help:
Changing library books - the children need to change their library books independently, so please encourage them to do this either before or after school! These can be changed every day!
PE Kits -we have PE sessions twice a week. Please make sure your children have a named PE kit in school. Also, as the weather gets colder, please ensure the children have long sleeves and tracksuits bottoms for outdoor sessions.
Helping in class - we always appreciate any time you can offer in school to help us in our learning in lots of different ways. Come and speak to us about when you would be able to help.
